Why should the roll of the dice decide a patient's treatment?
|
Welcome! This site is intended for residents and medical students. It is to be used as a tool for psychopharmacology consultations and for online supervision of residents in the Department of Psychiatry.
Psychopharmacology has grown exponentially in the past several decades.
Novel and exciting drugs to treat the ravages of mental illness have been developed and added to our armamentarium. It is our responsibility as practitioners to be knowledgeable in the different profiles of these agents, especially with respect to their pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics. Since each patient presents a unique scenario, and since these clinical manifestations often tend to be complicated by intercurrent problems (medical illness, substance abuse, polypharmacy as a result of comorbid conditions), the role of the consultant in psychopharmacology becomes of paramount importance. It is my desire that doctors-in-training and medical students avail themselves of this unique opportunity of case discussions and feedback. I am sure that this experience will be rewarding, fun, and exciting. Online supervision and e-psychiatry should become an integral part of medical education in the new millennium.
Again, welcome to the site! Please do not hesitate to write me with your comments and questions.
